| Hello whirled!
Cornwall’s countryside
has transformed in a week, the sun is out - and despite
not really being able to see it from inside the warehouse,
spirits are at an all time high at Nomads! Spring has finally
sprung! Trees went from bare twigs to illuminous and dark
shades of green. Hedges blossomed with little dots painted
yellow, pink, purple, blue, white and magenta. Bunnies
are the size of tennis balls hopping about on fields, swallows
have returned and are checking out the eaves, bees are buzzing
and pottering around the garden is on the up for us all.
To celebrate the start of
May I hosted a Cornish Mayhem Cider and Pasty Farmers Party
aka Mayhem! |

Farmer John and his Landie
|
A bunch of my friends and some of the Nomads crew came
around and did what it said on the tin, along with skipping
around a Maypole! John got on the decks playing some funky
stuff and we also had a bit of a jam with a couple of friends
from the Circus of Sound (http://www.myspace.com/circusofsounduk)
- truly an uplifting start to the summer ahead. It was almost
warm enough for me to consider sleeping outside… A
little premature me thinks!

Maypole dancing - of course! |

A couple of Pasties! |
|
| Just as the
temperature started to rise in April and our winter woolies
got folded up and put away, ironically boxes start arriving
from India with our autumn/winter samples. The boxes were
ripped open in no time at all and soon the whole office was
wearing coats. Each one of us found our own gems from the
collection and danced around very excitedly. We are seeing
more luxurious tailored shapes, warmer textured fabrics with
an edginess that we believe can’t be found on the High
Street. Nomads Clothing is always trying to promote and support
traditional crafts in India and so we are pleased to see more

handloom fabrics, both of which
have a handcrafted natural feel to them. We are all in agreement
that it is the best ever - yet. |

May method acting madness - Nomads do normal. |
Sue Curl (our designer from Brighton)
came down to Cornwall to help put together and merchandise the collection
with Vicky, Duncan and Jo. A couple of days later Vicky was already
ordering hundreds of coats and the autumn winter photo shoot was
booked in at Praze Farm, my family home. One week on from drinking
cider, eating pasties and dancing around a Maypole, |

Martin the film maker |
I found
my house completely transformed again. Food piled up high,
boxes of equipment everywhere, shoes, clothes rails, make-up
and more! There was a make-up artist, film maker, photographer,
models, art director and assistants running about in a somewhat
relaxed frantic manner, occupying every room in the house.
It was just brilliant! I love playing host and got to look
after everyone for the few days they were there. Throughout
the shoot we had a film maker, Martin, filming the “behind
the scenes” of Nomads and a light hearted music video
with all of the Nomads crew and friends jumping around the
farm like idiots! Watch this space… |

| Also, a big
shout out to Mr John Salter our mail order extraordinaire!!
Last Saturday was John’s birthday. I am sure to say
he had a good night wiggling on the dance floor. A few of
us went over to Totnes to celebrate not only John’s
birthday, but the 15th anniversary of Jelly Jazz http://www.jellyjazz.com/frameset.html
. We were exposed to a fine amount of soul, funk, jazz, Latin,
Brazilian, Afro-funk, hip hop and funky breaks from the DJs
and live band - Saravah Soul. John even managed to get a birthday
hug from the lead singer! Good time had by all.
Finally, but most importantly, I’d
like to mention World Fair Trade Day which was on the 10th
of May. This year we have found a great increase in the awareness
of Fair Trade. Jo has been dealing with press enquiries left,
right and center! You can check out one of our features on
the BBC Thread website http://www.bbc.co.uk/thread/
which supports a BBC 3 series called Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts. |

The behind of the behind the scenes |
|
|
Our newest addition to the Nomads Team - Shallon!! Doesn't
she wear the OG43 with such style?! |
The series followed a
bunch of young, fashionable Brits in India exploring what
it is really like in the factories that make High Street
clothing in the UK. Both the series and website have been
extremely informative and we are proud to be a part of
it.
The emphasis of World
Fair Trade Day has been on Ecology which nicely coincides
with what we are aiming towards with our new Organics
range this year. We hope that within time we will have
a completely organic collection. This is our intention
for the future and feel it should be the future of the
clothing industry as a whole. Thank you for supporting
us with this and being aware.
Lots of love and happy
vibes,
Jutta*
