Homemade beauty treatments
With this current chilly weather, it’s blissful to sink into a bath and treat our windswept selves to some home tonics for the body and mind. Here are two recipes to do just that, Lavender and Salt Body Scrub and Rose Petal Bath Oil.
As well as being beneficial, essential oils are powerful. If you are pregnant or have a medical condition, it is best to consult your midwife/medical professional before using any oils.
Lavender and Salt Body Scrub
Benefits of lavender include its skill in relieving nervous tension, pain and insomnia. It also has healing properties and enhances blood circulation.
150g coarse salt, such as Maldon
100g dried lavender flowers
380ml sweet almond oil
20 drops of lavender essential oil
Place the dry ingredients in a jar and mix together. Then pour the oil over them. Put the lid on the jar and shake. Add a little more oil as required – you may wish for a gentler scrub for example, so add a little more oil. Apply to the body in a circular motion.
Rose Petal Bath Oil
Rose essential oil is used to ease depression, it calms and uplifts mood. The oil also soothes, heals and improves skin. It is said to stimulates the muscles, skin and nerves, as well as balance female hormones and boots the immune system.
125ml rose water
1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
5 drops of rose essential oil
50g of rose petals
Combine the rose water and sweet almond oil, then slowly add the rose essential oil. Pour the mixture under the running tap and scatter in some rose petals.
