50% of our sales on Friday 23rd November will be donated to Newlife – a charity that is changing the lives of disabled and terminally ill children across the UK.
We are marking the annual 'Black Friday' retail frenzy in our own way this year. We won’t be running any special offers or discounts – instead we will be donating 50% of our sales on the day to Newlife – a charity that is changing the lives of disabled and terminally ill children across the UK.
We inevitably end up with some garments that we cannot sell, from one off samples to discontinued fabrics. These garments are perfectly wearable, so we donate them to Newlife, who then sell them in their Newlife stores. All the profits from these sales go towards helping the charity grow, from paying for nurses to purchasing vital equipment. So, when we came to choosing a charity to support on 'Black Friday' – Newlife was the obvious choice.
Six-year-old Elijah is one of the children that has benefitted from these charity donations, and Newlife have kindly shared Elijah’s story with us.
Elijah has a life-threatening form of epilepsy and suffers up to 150 seizures a day, as well as being assessed for Autism. The frequency of his seizures means he’s very tired and his muscles are weak. He has little speech, difficulty understanding and absolutely no awareness of danger.
Although the NHS had previously given him a buggy, when he grew out of it their waiting times for assessment and provision meant they couldn’t act quickly enough, leaving Elijah a prisoner in his own home.
Desperate, Elijah’s parents, Eryn and Matthew, turned to Newlife who quickly provided a £1,134 specialist buggy.
Mum Eryn shared with us what a difference this has made - “We were mostly stuck inside, unable to take Elijah anywhere. Sometimes I had no choice but to carry him to hospital appointments but the whole experience was horrendous. When Newlife got in touch to say they could help, I literally broke down - I would never have believed I could cry over a buggy, but it means everything to us and has made a world of difference.”
