Six summer festivals in Cornwall and Devon

We love a merry jig in The West Country, and can often be found dancing on the cobbled streets and beaches. Continuing our festival spirit, here are six festivals in Cornwall and Devon.

Looe Music festival: September 18 - 20
Little old Looe in south east Cornwall becomes a festival haven in September – but in its own unique way, of course. ‘Everywhere is a venue’, from the beaches to the pubs and cobbled streets. Stay locally in the campsites, caravans and B&Bs, strolling from the shindig to bed. 2015’s line up sees Jools Holland and His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, The Proclaimers and Johnny Marr, as well as the BBC Introducing stage, promoting new talent. Don’t forget to check down the littlest streets, there’s musical treasure to be found in every nook.  www.looemusic.co.uk

Port Eliot: July 30 – August 2
An explosion of creativity, music, art and the written word. Not to mention glorious food. Stunning Grade 1 house with over 1000 years of people living within its grounds, plus beautiful lawns and Instagram perfect styling make this possibly the smartest festival of them all. Think Midsummer Night’s Dream with The Unthanks, Rick Stein and Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman. A spot of wild swimming, bumblebee consultancy and a garden tour? Why yes, thank you. Wear your best (Nomads) robes. www.porteliotfestival.com

Leopallooza: July 29 - 31 2016 (planning ahead)
Great name (roll and ooh), friendly vibe, winner of UK Best Grass Roots Festival and with headliners such as Bastille. It’s not running this year – but we are getting in quickly for next year’s LEOX (10 year anniversary), because it’s one of those things that need to go in the diary quick sharp. leopallooza.com

Boardmasters: August 5 – 9
Let’s start with Faithless are headlining. Then there’s Rudimental, Bastille, De La Soul and Groove Armada. Plenty of super star musicians, strummers and of course, World Surf Leauge Pro’s at Fistral Beach. If you like dancing, surfing, glorious beaches and parties, this is for you my friend. www.boardmasters.co.uk

Sidmouth Folk Festival: July 31 – August 7
‘There has been a folk festival in Sidmouth in the first week of August every year since 1955.’ Whether you like the big concerts, ceilidh dancing, dance or energetic roots parties, you’ll find something here to float your boat. Love the history, the location and the variation in real, hearty folk music. www.sidmouthfolkweek.co.uk

Ethos Festival Tavistock: July 3 – 5
Multi-genre music festival, primarily dance, dub and bands – Freshly Squeezed and the Scribes headlining, the festival is rooted in promoting green thinking and using local art and sculptures in ambient areas. ‘Ethos is a collaboration of ideas that will provide you with all you need to funk out hard this summer.’ Voila. www.ethosfestival.com
